Pan de jamón is a traditional Venezuelan Christmas bread, typically served with hallacas but you can enjoy it any time of the year. A sweet, soft dough is rolled up around savory ham, sweet raisins and pimento-stuffed olives. Some recipes include bacon, too. The result is a fantastic, savory combination that Venezuelans can't live without.
This bread was created as a way to use bits and pieces of left over Christmas ham and it is now deeply rooted in Venezuelan holiday traditions. When Christmas-time is approaching, Venezuelans say "huele a hallaca y pan de jamon!".
